From 28th September to 30, 2023, Jelenia Góra was honoured to host a delegation from the Icelandic municipality of Akureyri, Jelenia Góra's esteemed partner city in the "Live, Reside, Work in Jelenia Góra!" project.
During their stay, the guests from Akureyri actively participated in workshops covering various aspects of urban development:
- Digital Services for Residents: Exploring innovative approaches and advancements in providing digital services to enhance the resident experience.
- Geothermal Energy: A meeting held at Termy Cieplickie [Thermal Baths], delving into discussions on harnessing geothermal energy for sustainable practices.
- Ecological Urban Transportation: A meeting hosted at the headquarters of Miejski Zakład Komunikacyjny (Municipal Transportation Company), focusing on eco-friendly urban transport solutions.
Beyond the workshops, Mayor Ásthildur Sturludóttir of Akureyri engaged in meaningful exchanges with Mayor Jerzy Łużniak of Jelenia Góra. They shared valuable experiences in city management and the functioning of local government in Poland and Iceland.
Guests from Iceland also had the delightful opportunity to explore Jelenia Góra and partake in the festivities of the MOVI CITIES - Jelenia Góra Festival of Light.
The collaborative efforts initiated during this visit will persist, with working teams reconvening during the return visit to Akureyri in November of this year. Ongoing correspondence and online meetings will further strengthen the ties between our cities.
