Geological Excursion: "On the Granite Frontier - A Journey in Time from 500 Million Years to 300 Million Years" – 16th September 2023

We cordially invite you to join the geological excursion titled "On the Granite Frontier - A Journey in Time from 500 Million Years to 300 Million Years," scheduled for this Saturday, 16th September, 2023.

The tour is carefully curated to showcase the co-evolution of magmatic rocks that formed between 500 and 300 million years ago. In Jelenia Góra, we will explore the granite of the Karkonosze Mountains, delving into discussions on its formation age and examining rock samples. Participants will have the opportunity to identify the fundamental minerals constituting granite.

Moving to the valley of the Bobr River, we will study an older granite known as Iserian gneiss. Our exploration will include observations on its deformation and metamorphosis, as well as an examination of its various varieties. Similar to the Karkonosze granite, we will analyse its mineral composition and delve into its historical context. Our guide will be Stanisław Madej, PhD - a geologist from the University of Wroclaw.

Meeting point: Jelenia Gora, City Park on Wzgórze Kościuszki [Kosciuszko Hill] by the geological section through the Western Sudetes at 11:00 AM. Route: City Park (Jelenia Góra) - " Perła Zachodu "Guesthouse - approximately 5.5 km walking route.

The tour is intended for individuals, is free of charge for participants and is carried out within the framework of the project "Live, reside, work in Jelenia Gora!" subsidized by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 under the "Local Development" program.

Due to the limited number of places, please register your participation in the tour at karolina.martini@kpnmab.pl or phone 514 607 295 ( text message is also possible).
